| ISHK Healing Brain Seminars featured pioneers in mind/body health By the 1980s, though research was conclusive, the link between the mind and disease was barely recognized in the medical profession and popular press. Under the direction of Dr. David Sobel, Director of Preventative Medicine, Kaiser Permanente, ISHK launched the Healing Brain Seminar series for health professionals. Co-sponsored by leading medical educational institutions including University of California San Francisco, Pacific Medical Center and the British Columbia Institute of Technology, ISHK's Healing Brain Seminars provided a much-needed forum to bring this information to thousands of medical professionals in the U.S. and Canada. Faculty included virtually all of the pioneering researchers in the field: James Lynch, Thomas Budzynski, Meredith Minkler, Marian C. Diamond, Rene Dubos, Hans Selye and many others. Topics included social support, stress and stress management, endorphins, hypnosis, boredom and brain states, pain management, placebos, laughter and healing, and much more.
