Continuing-education programs for psychologists


The Institute for the Study of Human Knowledge (ISHK) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. ISHK maintains responsibility for this program and its contents. CE credits for psychologists provided by ISHK are accepted by most states with mandatory CE.

Easy, flexible and tailored to the needs of the busy, involved professional, ISHK's CE@Home program allows you to earn CE credits by choosing a book or audiotape, reading or listening to it, and taking a test to show that you have learned an adequate amount of material.

ISHK, an educational and scientific organization, has provided continuing education courses since 1971 and was one of the first organizations approved by APA to sponsor continuing education in psychology. The Continuing Education at Home program was developed in 1993 under the direction of Charles Swencionis, Ph.D., Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Now available in California!

All of ISHK's CE@Home courses are now available in California. Beginning December 31, 2006, the California Board of Psychology will allow accrual of up to 27 hours of the required 36 hours of continuing education for independent learning courses (formerly called "distance learning"). Note: In Minnesota, three hours of home-study activity equal one continuing education hour.

How it works

1. After registration, the test will be sent to you in 5 business days or less. Our preferred method of delivery is by email since it is the most expeditious mode. US Mail delivery is also available but will take longer. Books* for our courses may be purchased from third-party suppliers (e.g., Amazon.com), or we can order the book(s) for you at the published prices currently listed on our web site (prices subject to change). Books are shipped via UPS Ground with scheduled delivery within 5 business days. (See the order form for expedited rates.)

2. Tests are multiple-choice and/or True-False questions. There is only one correct answer for each question. The number of questions is proportional to the length of the book and the number of credits.
3. A passing grade is 80%. In the event you fail, we will inform you of the areas that you need to review and improve upon and then re-take the test. Unfortunately we are unable to return your test once it has been submitted, therefore, we advise you to keep a copy of your submitted test.
4. Test results are sent via fax, if requested, and by US Mail typically within 5 business days of receipt. For the fastest service, please provide your fax number when submitting your test.
5. Your certificate will be dated as of the business day we receive your test, not the postmarked date. Therefore, it is advantageous to submit your test by fax. Please return your test by only one mode of delivery to avoid confusion and delays.
6. Tests may be submitted up to 2 years from the date of test registration date. All course registrations expire on the 2-year anniversary. Customers wanting to submit any test after the 2-year period must contact ISHK to ensure the course is still available and a flat re-registration fee will apply to receive CE credit.
7. No course may be submitted for credit more than once unless the book has been updated to a new edition and has been incorporated into our program. At registration, please inform us if you intend to register for a course you have already taken for a previous edition so we may verify your eligibility for credit. Registration will be at full price for new edition tests. It is your responsibility to know the policies of your governing board, and we do not report your results to your board.

Most of the books in ISHK's courses can be purchased through Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com. However, all tests must be purchased through ISHK. If you enter these online stores through our website, ISHK will receive a donation from Amazon and B&N to help support our programs.
