LEARNING OBJECTIVES - This course was designed to allow the reader to:
• Learn the domains of activity in which therapist engage
• Learn the parameters which must be considered in defining what constitutes ethical practice
• Learn what is considered with the realm of ethical practice in this context
• Recognize what is clearly outside of ethical practice and where the gray areas are that require special attention and care
• Learn a model for building a conceptual map for ethical practice for treating couples and families
• Understand the basic tenets of the AAMFT therapeutic contract
• Learn what are the most important concerns the therapist has in “community family therapy”
• Learn the appropriate formats including children in the case of a difficult divorce
• Know when a therapist can report when a client has been the subject of sexual misconduct

Jane DiVita Woody, Ph.D., M.S.W., is Professor of Social Work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
